„My memories from Turkey”
Our Comenius journey to
Turkey started very early on Tuesday, it was still night. First we went by bus
to the airport in Warsaw. Then we flew to Munich where we had connection to
Ankara. We arrived at 3 p.m.. Three Turkish teachers were waiting for us at the
airport. We went by bus to school where we were welcomed by Turkish parents and
children. I stayed with Gulbahar, I hosted her at my home in Torun. Her family
greeted me nicely. After dinner we went to the local playground together with
Gulbahar and her sister Tugce. We met other children hosting Polish and Spanish
students. We played different games.
On Wednesday we met in front
of the school and we went to the theatre. There was a welcoming show with
traditional dances and songs. We also got some presents. I liked Mangala game
the most. We were learned how to play this old Turkish game. Then we ate lunch
and went to school. There we were also greeted warmly and we got presents
again. After that we looked around the school. We took part in art activities
and we made boxes with special decorations. After school we went home. We met
a lot of friends at the playground and we played games again. In the
evening we went to the funfair together with Gulbahar’s family. There I rode on the big wheel and I could see
beautiful panorama of Ankara. We had a great time together with Gulbahar and
Tugce.
On Thursday early morning we
went on our first sightseeing tour to Cappadocia. It is very old area created
in volcanic rocks. There were homes made in rocks. We met Polish tourists
there. Our guide was Turkish but he could speak Polish a little. We got home
very late.
On Friday we visited Ankara
– the capital of Turkey. First we went to the Science Centre, after that we
visited the major of one of the Ankara districts. There we learned about the
beginnings of the city. We also visited one of the most important place for
each Turkish person, which is the Mausoleum of Ataturk – the national hero.
After coming back home as usual we played different games like table tennis.
On Saturday we started our
two days journey to Istanbul. It is one of the biggest cities in Turkey. One
part of the city is in Europe while the other is in Asia. We visited a lot of
monuments, mosques and the biggest bazaar. On Sunday we had a boat trip along
the Bosphorus strait. We could admire beautiful views of Istanbul. Before the
trip we visited the Miniaturk Museum. We could see the most important Turkish
buildings made in mini scale. We came back home in the evening.
Monday was a day to say
goodbye to my Turkish family. In the afternoon we departed to Warsaw with
connection in Munich. We arrived to Torun in the middle of the night.
Visiting Turkey has been the
biggest and the most important adventure in my entire life so far. I learned
about the culture and customs in that beautiful country. I saw how children in
Turkey live and spend their free time. I noticed that young people at my age do
similar things in their spare time. We play the same games. Thanks to Gulbahar
I could see how the Muslim prayer looks like. I also showed her how I pray.
During my stay we spoke a lot ( with some help of translator). Gulbahar’s
family promised to visit me in Torun when they would travel to Belgium. I am still in touch with my “Turkish
family” and also with friends from Turkey and Spain.
